The Alice High School athletic department is honoring first responders and all active and retired military personnel at the Coyotes’ next home game next Friday.

With uniform or a form of identification, responders and servicemen and women will be allowed into the Alice-Flour Bluff game for free. Organizers said the plan is to have representatives from Alice’s police department, sheriff’s department and fire department serve as team captains for the game.

Alice coach Justen Evans, a one-time Corpus Christi Police Department patrolman, said those who service and protect deserve recognition and appreciation for the work they do.

“I know the job these folks do, and in our society today where there are different opinions about respecting the flag and our country and our values, it’s important to honor our first responders and military,” he said. “They put their lives on the line so that we can be safe. That means a lot."

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Memorial Stadium. A pregame tailgating event will be held at about 6:15 p.m. before the game in front of the Alice Coyote Booster Club stand on the southwest entrance to the stadium. The event will include food for first responders and military personnel.

First responders and military personnel planning on attending the event and eating at the tailgating event are asked to RSVP by Wednesday by calling the athletic department at (361) 660-2000, Ext. 1.
