San Diego - Maria H. Garza, 90 years of age, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 12, 2021 in an Alice hospital after a short illness. She was born in Benavides, Texas on August 19, 1931 to her parents, Marcelino and Eulogia (Nunez) Hernandez. "Mamo" as she was known affectionately by her family and the numerous children she cared for in her lifetime. She was a strong hearted Christian woman who touched a lot of lives and was a caretaker for St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church, rectory. She was an active member of St. Francis De Paula Catholic church and the Altar and Rosary Society, and Las Guadalupanas. Mamo dedicated her life to God and her family, and especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed supporting her San Diego Vaqueros, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Genovevo Garza; her parents; her son-in-law, Danny Elizondo; a granddaughter, Vanessa Garza Lucio and all her siblings.

Maria is survived by her son, Ramiro H. (Rosie) Garza of San Diego, Texas; two daughters, Adriana G. Elizondo ( Danny) and Betty (Barney) Perez both of San Diego, Texas; nephew raised as a son, Jose Martinez of Benavides, Texas; eight grandchildren, Veronica (Jonathan) Boehm, Vianca (Arnold) Garcia, Andrew Garza, Miguel (Heather) Elizondo, Gabriel (Erica) Elizondo, Adriel (Angelica) Elizondo, Michael Perez, Jacob Perez; eleven great grandchildren, Jeremy (Kriselda) Boehm, Brendin Boehm, Aubrey Boehm, Madyson Wright, Danielle Garcia, Allison Elizondo, Ryan Elizondo, Dani Elizondo, Mikah Elizondo, Arianna Elizondo, Avery Elizondo; one great great granddaughter, Adalynn Boehm.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will be following all CDC and Government mandates and ask each guest to do so as well. We ask everyone to follow social distancing and wear masks inside the funeral home and church.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Interment will follow at San Diego Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.
