Cowen

ROCKDALE, Texas - Marjorie Ruth Tumlinson Cowen, 65, a resident of Rockdale, Texas, died Thursday, February 1, 2007 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale, Texas. She was born November 11, 1941 in Nixon, Texas, to Frank Edward and Myrle Willyne Neely McKinney.

She grew up in Smiley, where she went to school. In her youth, she played volleyball, basketball and was captain of the basketball team. She also was a drummer with the pep squad, "Miss Smiley High School Sweetheart" and Class Favorite as well as being the valedictorian of her 1960 graduating class. She was formerly a resident of Cuero and Freer, Texas. She served as bookkeeper for Leske's Motor Company of Cuero for numerous years, bookkeeper for Industrial Electric of Freer, a tax preparer for H&R Block and the finance director for the City of Cuero.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Edward Tumlinson of Cuero and Donny Cowen of Nixon; her father; and her brother, James William McKinney.

Survivors include her son, Arlon Dane (Rhonda Kay) Hester of Euless, Texas; daughter, Rona Gem Locke of Georgetown, Texas; mother, Myrle Stokes of Rockdale; sisters, Virginia (A.G.) Praesel of Rockdale, and Francis Sue (B.J.) Gregory of Brazoria; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2007 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale, with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. that evening at Forest Grove Chirsitan Church at Forest Grove. Additional visitation was in Cuero from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2007 at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero with burial following in Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.

Lewis

FREER, Texas - Loy Lewis, 71, a resident of Freer, Texas, for more than 30 years, died on Thursday, February 1, 2007 after a sudden illness.

He served as deacon for the First Baptist Church and he was currently a deacon and a board member for Faith Christian Church in Freer, Texas.

He retired after 25 years of employment with National Oil Well. After a short retirement, he returned back to the workforce with Total Service Supply (TSS) where he enjoyed spending time with his co-workers. His passion was church, woodwork and spending time with his family.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Rose Lewis of Freer, Texas; his son Shane (Rhonda) Lewis of Denton, Texas; his daughter, Sonia (Scott) Halfmann of Highland Village, Texas; stepsons, Angel (Linda) Alaniz, Rudy Alaniz and Ruben (Gloria) Alaniz; stepdaughters, Lena (Jesus) Almendarez, all of Freer, Texas, Bernie (Ruben) Martinez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kathy (Bobby) Guzman of Alice, Texas and Peggy (Nuno) Villarreal of Freer, Texas; his brother, Lee (Jo) Lewis of Avery, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Preston Lewis, Reece, Stanton and Emma Halfmann, Lynette and Lyndsey Alaniz, Bene and Jeremy Alaniz, Adam and Eric Almendarez, R.J. Martinez, Marcos and Mateo Guzman, Jonathan and Mariah Alaniz.

Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. that same evening.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home Chapel in Freer with Brother Joe Carrales officiating.

Burial will follow at the Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas.

Quinonez

BENAVIDES, Texas - Lilia R. Quinonez, 88, passed away January 28, 2007 in a nursing home in Ohio after a long illness. She was a homemaker and owned a small grocery store in Benavides, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luciano Quinonez; and by her brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Jesus (Lilia) Quinonez and Greg (Leslie) Quinonez, both of Fremont, Ohio; two daughters, Rita Rivera of Garland, Texas, and Berta (Tristan) Trevino of Defiance, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at the Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Chapel in Benavides, Texas.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church and burial followed at the Benavides Cemetery.
