FREER, Texas – Santiago P. Garza, 92, passed away on January 23, 2010, in an Alice hospital. He was a WWII Air Force Veteran serving his country in France, England and Germany. He was always interested in world events and especially enjoyed watching CNN on a daily basis. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Isabel Garza.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Herlinda Garza of Freer, Texas; three sons, Ricardo (Ginger) Garza of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Ruben Garza and Elivaldo Garza, both of Freer, Texas; four daughters, Lucila Garza of Edinburg, Texas,  Gloria (Vic) Canales of  San Antonio, Texas, Avelina Infante of McAllen, Texas, and Elsa Garza of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Jesus Garza of Freer, Texas; one sister, Soila (Raul) Medellin of Alice, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.   

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. that evening.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freer, Texas.   Military graveside service and  interment will follow at the Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas.
