BENAVIDES, Texas – Anita Gonzalez Salazar, 92, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in Edinburg, Texas, after a long illness. She was a former resident of Benavides, Texas, and was currently residing with her daughter in Edinburg. She was a member of Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides and was retired from Benavides I.S.D. as a custodian for more than 12 years. She attended the senior citizens program at the REAL Center of Benavides. She enjoyed cooking and baking pan de campo.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Lorenzo Gonzalez; her parents, Simon and Eliza Elizondo; her second husband, Jose Salazar; her sisters, Leonila, Marcelina and Eliza; her brothers, Johnny, Simon and Domingo Elizondo.
She is survived by her son, Cleofas (Arcadia) Gonzalez of Benavides, Texas; her daughter, Anna (Nick) Cervantes of Edinburg, Texas; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas, Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas.
Burial will follow at the Benavides Cemetery.
