TIENDITAS COMMUNITY, Texas - Abel Canales, 94 years old, died Aug. 6, 2007 at his residence after a long illness. He was a retired farmer and rancher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Genoveva Canales; a son, Lauro Canales; two grandsons; Phillip and Issac Reyes; and numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his wife, Ofelia C. Canales of Tienditas Ranch Realitos Community, Texas; three sons, Leonel (Margarita) Canales of Benavides, Texas, Luis Abel (Alicia) Canales of Kingsville, Texas, and Leovardo (Irma) Canales of Hebbronville, Texas; five daughters, Lilly (Clyde) Halsey and Ludy (Ramiro) Salinas, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, Luz Maria (Ruben) Reyes of Lake Jackson, Texas, Linda (Barbara Luna) Canales of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lora (Mario) Trevino of Lake Jackson, Texas; four sisters, Estella (Leonel) Garcia of Tienditas Ranch Realitos Community, Elodia Gonzalez and Ester Gonzalez, both of Rios Community, Texas, and Eloisa (Raul) Yzaguirre of Premont, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Aida P. Canales and Marzulema S. Canales, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego with a Rosary to be recited that evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007 at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Realitos, Texas. Burial will follow at Tienditas Cemetery at Tienditas Community, Texas.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Orlando Canales, Michael Canales, Romeo Salinas, Leovardo Canales, Jr., Levi Canales, Joseph Reyes and Zakery Trevino.
Honorary pallbearers will be Reynaldo Canales, Julian Lozano Jr. and Roberto Gonzalez.

FREER - Fabianita G. Guajardo, 81, of Freer, passed away August 5, 2007 in an Alice hospital after a long illness. She was born August 11, 1925 in Chilpitin Ranch near San Diego, Texas, to Jose and Maria Gonzalez.
Fabianita was the oldest of 13 children. She was well-known throughout the community of Freer as a child care provider (babysitter) and as a creative seamstress. She made many of the Freer cheerleader uniforms and always had a scrap of blue and gold fabric handy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Maria Gonzalez; her husband, Abel R. Guajardo; one son, Jesse Guajardo; one granddaughter, Debra Ray Saenz; two sisters, Delia Cantu and Elda Gonzalez; three brothers, Amado, Erineo and Ernesto Gonzalez; and two brothers-in-law, Dudley Broussard and Juan Flores.
She leaves to cherish her memories her three sons, Abel M. (Clara) Guajardo of Freer; Reymundo (Nita) Guajardo of Premont and Tommy Guajardo of Freer; three daughters, Eloisa (Jim) Ray of Freer, Elda (Dick) Miller of Triangle, Va., and Elva (Rufino) Saenz of McAllen; two brothers, Jose R. (Herminia) Gonzalez of California and Eloy Gonzalez of Corpus Christi; three sisters-in-law, Linda, Gloria and Omedi Gonzalez, all of Freer; five sisters, Elma (Domingo) Marquez of Freer, Sofia Broussard of Lake Charles, La., Corina Flores of Freer, Dalia (Ray) Pantalion of Corpus Christi and Lily (Joe) Adami of Freer; 22 grandchildren, Connie (Ronnie) Garza, J.T. (Christy) Ray, Chris (Nicole) Miller, Abigail (David) Gutierrez, Andrey Guajardo, Abel Joel Guajardo, Caylyn Guajardo, Rene (Gina) Guajardo, Steven (Samantha) Guajardo, Nicholas Guajardo, Stephen (Marla) Garcia, Stephanie (Lando) Arevalo, Celina Guajardo, Terri Guajardo, T.J. Guajardo, Daniel Guajardo, Jessel Guajardo, Leo Jess Guajardo, David Guajardo, Matthew B. Saenz, Laura Fabianita Saenz and Michael Anthony Saenz; 18 great-grandchildren who will miss their incredible "wella" and numerous neices and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Chapel in Freer with Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church and burial will follow at Hahl Memorial Park Cemetery in Freer.
