FREER, Texas - Antonia R. Garza, 85, a longtime resident of Freer, died Friday, Febraury 9, 2007 at her daughter's residence in Zapata, Texas, after a long illness with her family at her bedside. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer and enjoyed quilting and sewing for all her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel "Red" Garza; her son, Manuel Rumaldo Garza; her daughter, Blanca Estella Garza; a grandson; her parents, Cristobal and Dominga Rodriguez; three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Julian R. Garza of Uvalde, Texas, and Juan A. Garza of Freer; four daughters, Genoveva Garza, Ludivina G. Cordaway and Diana L. Garza, all of Zapata, and Rubelina G. Ulmer of Fort Worth; four sisters, Romana R. Gonzalez of Falfurrias, Jesusa R. Castillo of Alice, Lucinda R. Sendejo of San Diego and Genoveva R. Garza of Freer; two brothers, Guadalupe "Wally" Rodriguez of Benavides and Julian Rodriguez of Alice; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer with burial at San Manuel Cemetery in Concepcion, Texas.
