Chote, Hoelscher


ALICE, Texas - Geraldine C. Chote, 68, passed away July 10, 2007 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born May 9, 1939 in New Braunfels, Texas, to Alonzo and Eleanora Wahl. She was a housewife. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice, and a member of the Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a daughter, Deborah Kay Chote.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary (John) Kominis, Susan (Taylor Bradford) Chote, and Patricia Chote, all of Alice; one sister, Genevieve (Johnny) Nemec of New Braunfels; four grandchildren, two nephews, one niece, four great-nephews and two great-nieces.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday July 20, 2007 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday July 21, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Alice Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for final expenses.

ALICE, Texas - Judy "Jewel" Hoelscher, a long time resident of Alice, died on July 17, 2007 in Spring, Texas, north of Houston after a short illness. She was 79 years old.

One of six children, Mrs. Hoelscher was born on January 28, 1928 in Mirando City, Texas, to Frank and Pearl Hughes. The family moved from Mirando City to Freer, Texas, where Judy attended Freer High School. While at Freer High School, Judy was honored to lead the High School marching band as a Majorette. Judy recalled many happy memories of her friends of Freer High School. The classmates stayed close and continued to meet at the Lyle Ranch outside of Freer on an annual basis.

Mrs. Hoelscher married long time Alice resident Lawrence Hoelscher in Alice and began a lifelong adventure of raising a family while working for Harkins and Company. Judy was a regular participant at Camp Fire Girl meetings, Little League Baseball games and dance recitals at Beverly Miller's School of Dance.

Mrs. Hoelscher was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her sister, June Moseley; and her brother Warren Hughes.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl (Doug) Beu of League City, Texas; her son, Larry (Dee Dee) Hoelscher of Tomball, Texas; one sister, Joe Ann (Albert) Day of Alice; two brothers, J. B. Hughes of Corpus Christi and Frank (Lucille) Hughes Jr. of McAllen, Texas; four grandchildren, Jocelyn and Erica Beu of League City, and Jamison and Christopher Hoelscher of Tomball, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Samantha King of League City. She is also survived by her sister in law, Mary Franki of Alice, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 19, 2007 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2007 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park in Alice.
