STERLING, Ill. – Juanita Gonzalez Garcia, 81 of Alice, Texas, and formerly of Sterling, Ill., died Friday, April 15, 2011, in Sterling. She was born on May 15, 1929, in Alice, Texas, the daughter of Jose and Natividad (Leal) Gonzalez. She married Ernesto Garcia Sr. on May 5, 1949, in Sterling. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Edna Garcia Boyer; a son, Jose Garcia; one granddaughter, Felicia Garcia; one grandson, Joshua Garcia; and one great-grandson, Mathias Chaidez.
Survivors include her husband; children, Joey (Michael) Greer of Sterling, Ruben Garcia of Alice, Texas, Gloria (Jose) Chaidez of Sterling, Ernesto (Cheryel) Garcia Jr. of Sterling, Norma (Craig) Nelson of Morrison, Amanda Garcia (Billy Woosley) of Sterling and Richard Garcia (Alice Shaver) of Sterling; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great -grandchildren; two sisters, Elena Cavazos of El Paso, Texas, and Isabelle Herrera of Muskegan, Mich.; and one brother, Bernardo Gonzalez of El Paso, Texas.
A Rosary was recited at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., in Rock Falls, Ill. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling with the reverend Juan Ayala, celebrant, officiating. Burial followed at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.
