ALICE, Texas – Gabriel Guevara, 86, passed away September 25, 2008 in Alice, Texas at his home.
He was born on April 11, 1922 in Alice, Texas, to Serafin and Angelita Guevara.
He was a graduate of Alice High School in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1940 to 1945. After being honorably discharged, he attended Texas A&M University where he obtained a degree in civil engineering and architectural design in 1951.
He worked with the Department of Navy for 32 years as a civil engineer and retired in 1983.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Angelines Guevara; his parents, Serafin and Angelita Guevara; one brother, Serafin Guevara Jr.; one sister, Lita (T.L.) Harville; a nephew, Ricky De Los Santos; and brothers-in-law, Gustavo Garcia and Gustavo Rodriguez.
He is survived by two daughters, Yolanda Aycock of Fairfax, Va., and Carla (Jerry) Garcia of Annandale, N.J.; two sons, Gabriel (Sara) Guevara and David (Melissa) Guevara of Alice, Texas; one brother, Eloy (Cleo) Guevara of Bozeman, Mont.; four sisters, Elda Rodriguez, Delia Mathis and Emma (Luis) Rea of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Ida Garcia of Ben Bolt, Texas; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Chapel A, Ruben M. Garcia & Sons Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at New Collins Cemetery with military honors provided by United Veterans Burial Association of Alice, Texas.
