SAN DIEGO, Texas – Minerva Gonzales, 65, passed away September 18, 2008 in an Alice hospital. She was a housewife and a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia H. Cervantes; one son, Homero Gonzalez Jr.; and two sisters, Elvira Everett and Herminia Reyna.
Survivors include her two sons, David Joe (Mary Ann) Gonzalez of San Diego, Texas, and Jesus Gonzalez of Alice, Texas; two daughters, Cynthia (Rene) Saenz and Gina Elouise Gonzalez, all of San Diego, Texas; her father, Miguel “Mike” Cervantes of San Antonio, Texas; her stepmother, Avelina Cervantes of San Antonio, Texas; five sisters, Eliza (Armando) Hernandez and Jesusa “Susie” (Carlos) Garza, all of Corpus Christi, Texas, Aida Jimenez of Harlingen, Texas, Rosie Benavides of Alice, Texas, and Virginia (Julian Davila) Cervantes of Granite Shoals, Texas; five stepsisters, Felipa (Robert) Saenz of Victoria, Isabel (Eugene) Saenz of Houston and Lydia (Carlos) Pinerio and Abelina Cervantes, all of San Antonio and Alicia (Daniel) Manriquez of Premont, Texas; six stepbrothers, Mike Cervantes of Alice, Rene Cervantes of Sinton, Daniel Cervantes of Mathis, Joe Cervantes of Alice, Fred Cervantes of San Antonio and Jesus Cervantes of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitations will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego, Texas, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 22, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery # 2 in San Diego, Texas.
