ALICE, Texas - Guillermo "Willie" McKenzie Chapa, 60, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 in a Corpus Christi hospital after an illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Eva McKenzie Chapa; and a sister, Lupita Guitz.
Survivors include two sons, Roel (Renee) Chapa of Orange Grove, Texas, and Raul (Eliza) Chapa of Alice, Texas; two daughters, Raquel (Les) Klemme of El Paso, Texas, and Sylvia (Michael) French of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Gilberto Chapa Jr, of Alice, Texas; and three sisters, Aurora Martinez and Berta Trevino, both of Alice, Texas, and Elida Saenz of Houston, Texas. A prayer service will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Open Door Baptist Church at 1200 Seabreeze in Alice, Texas.

HONDO, Texas - John Oliver Duane Coyle, 71, of Hondo, Texas, passed away January 13, 2007 in San Antonio. He was born December 26, 1935 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was raised in south Texas and New Mexico and graduated from William Adams High School in Alice. After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines and served four years. He attended Texas A&I College on the G.I. Bill he earned during his stint as a Marine, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1961, and married his first wife, Valerie, the day after their graduation. He attended law school at the University of Texas in Austin and went on to follow his real calling, teaching. He taught school in Pearsall, Kingsville and Hondo. He received Young Educator of the Year awards in both Pearsall and Kingsville. While in Kingsville, he earned a Masters of Science degree from Texas A&I College and had both of his sons with Valerie. He taught in Hondo from 1970 until he retired from teaching in 1984. In Hondo, he also served as president of the Hondo Classroom Teachers Association. He and Valerie pursued the American dream of having their own business in the late 1980s with a try at publication. Valerie wrote a weekly recipe exchange column with which they later created four cookbooks. John was in charge of illustrations in their books and selling the books to prospective retailers. Valerie passed away in 1997 at the age of 57. In 1998, he married Helen Nooner, with whom he spent his retirement years traveling, visiting family and friends, taking care of each other and a variety of pets.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Nooner Coyle of Hondo; his sons, Steven (Pride) of Cedar Park and Glenn (Sarah) of Midland; stepson, Sammy (Alyce) of Hondo; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church of Hondo at 2 p.m. January 15, 2007.

ALICE, Texas - James Allen Fields, 51, died Monday, January 22, 2007 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was a Vietnam Veteran, where he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
Survivors include his fianc/e, Esmeralda Fernandez of Alice, Texas; the aunt who raised him as a son, Birdie Fields of Alice, Texas; two sons, James Fields Jr. of Maryland, and Jeremiah Fields of Mathis, Texas; four daughters, Jackie Fields, Jasmine Fields and Jessica Fields, all of San Angelo, Texas, and Samantha Fields of Alice, Texas; brother, Wade Fields of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Mattie Bibbs and Constance Mitchell, both of San Antonio, Texas, and Mildred Fields of Alice, Texas; several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Alice, Texas. Graveside funeral services will begin at 9:15 am. Friday, January 26, 2007 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

ALICE, Texas - Victor Manuel Munoz Jr., 27, passed away January 21, 2007 in a San Antonio hospital after a short illness. He was a 1997 graduate of Alice High School. He attended Texas A & M - Kingsville and was a plant supervisor for F.D.F. Ltd. Services in Alice, Texas. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Raul and Ella Munoz; and his maternal grandmother, Gloria R. Valverde.
Survivors include his fianc/e, Yesenia Quinones of Alice, Texas; one son, Joshua Matthew Munoz of Alice, Texas; his parents, Victor Manuel Sr. and Belinda Munoz, both of Alice, Texas; his maternal grandfather, Samuel Valverde of Alice, Texas; two sisters, Melissa Munoz and Vanessa Munoz, both of Alice, Texas, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in Alice until 6:30 p.m.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home of Alice. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church and burial will follow at the Roberson-Collins Cemetery.
