SAN?DIEGO, Texas – Petra B. Rogers, 102, years old passed away on April 27, 2011, after a short illness. She was born November 21, 1908, to Mariano Benavides and Teresa Martinez Garcia and was the last of 12 children.
She was a pioneer rancher from the ranching community of Mendieta, Texas. Petra was also a homemaker and a member of the St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry P. Rogers, one daughter, Susie (Ben) Pawlik, a grandson, Ben Pawlik Jr. and 11 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Maime Rogers of Corpus Christi, Texas; one son, Pat A. (Araceli) Rogers of San Diego, Texas; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home of San Diego with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church and burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery.
The Rogers family would like to extend a special thanks to La Hacienda Nursing Home directors and staff for the excellent care and kindness that they so willingly practiced during the 12 years of her stay at the facility.
