MINERAL WELLS, Texas - Manuel Ruelas, 66, passed away on January 29, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 21, 1941 in Palito Blanco, Texas, to Manuel and Emiteria Ruelas. He was a graduate of Ben Bolt High School in Ben Bolt, Texas, and also a graduate of Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. He was a Vietnam War veteran and settled his family in Mineral Wells, Texas, after his tour of duty. He spent many years as a supervisor for Halliburton Resource Management in Mineral Wells, Texas, and Waukesha-Pearce Industries, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas, before retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mineral Wells. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Ruelas Sr.; and his brother, Mateo Ruelas who was killed in action in Cambodia during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Estella Yolanda Ruelas of Mineral Wells, Texas; sons, Joe (Tina) Ruelas and John (Summer) Ruelas, both of Mineral Wells; daughter, Sylvia Ruelas Guerrero of Mineral Wells; and four sisters, Marina Rivera of Ben Bolt, Texas, Licha Munoz of Kingsville, Texas, Romula Reyes of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Rosa (Rolando) Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas, two brothers, Ufracio Ruelas of Palito Blanco, Texas and Braulio Ruelas and his wife of Alice, Texas; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mineral Wells. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2008, also at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery.

AGUA DULCE, Texas - Alberto "Burt" Uribe, 83, passed away on January 28, 2008 in an Alice nursing home. He was born April 23, 1924 in Agua Dulce, Texas, to Porifiro and Santos Uribe. He was a retired farmer and was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Alberto Uribe Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas and Henry Uribe of Alice, Texas; two sisters, Juanita Vela of Alice and San Juana Galvan of Gregory, Texas; one brother, Julian Uribe of Agua Dulce and several grandchildren.

The family will have a private memorial service.
