RAMIREZ, Texas - Herminia G. "Minnie" Chavera, 86, a lifelong resident of Ramirez, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007 in an Alice hospital after a long illness. She enjoyed gardening, loved a variety of flowers, trees and green grass. She also enjoyed cooking for any occasion, her specialty was carne guisada, beans, rice and potato salad, and for Christmas holidays she enjoyed making tamales, empanadas, cookies and pan de polvo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Chavera, her parents, and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her four children, Diana (Liborio) Saenz of Benavides, Texas, Hector Mario (Rosa) Chavera of Alice, Texas, Jorge Chavera and Leticia (Raul) Rios, both of Ramirez, Texas; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, her caretaker, her goddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007 at St. Rosa De Lima Catholic Church with Father Paul as celebrant. Burial followed at the Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
