ALFRED, Texas - Jesus M. Garcia, 91, passed away June 22, 2007 in an Alice hospital. He was born September 10, 1915 in Alice, Texas, to Seferino and Maria Perez Garcia. He was a retired foreman for Southern Pacific Railroad and also a retired rancher.
He was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorenza Garcia, in December of 2005 and by his parents.
Survivors include five daughters, Leonora Casares and Olga (Ted) Gonzalez, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lorenza O. (William) Bowland, Maria E. Rose and Adriana L. (Israel) Guerra, all of Orange Grove, Texas; three sons, Seferino (Feliz) Garcia of Orange Grove, Daniel Garcia of Alice and Marcos Garcia of Orange Grove; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Sunday, June 24, 2007 from 1 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice.
Burial followed in the Adams Ranch Cemetery near Alfred, Texas, with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Burial Association of Alice.
