Amando Martinez, Sr. passed away on January 11, 2009. Amando enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and was a WWII veteran (1942-1944) where he was a (B-24) Aerial Engineer. He retired from Civil Service in 1975 after having worked at the Kelly Air Base in San Antonio, Texas and the Corpus Christi Army Depot. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Alice, American Legion and the United Veterans Burial Association. Amando was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia P. Martinez; parents, Antonio and Guadalupe Martinez; five brothers, Lauro G. Martinez, Manuel G. Martinez, Gilberto G. Martinez, Raul G. Martinez and Humberto G. Martinez; two sisters, Aurora Valverde and Guadalupe Tamez; one grandson, Shawn William Bruce, one granddaughter, Ana Maria Cantu; and one son-in-law, Edward Cantu, Jr.
Amando is survived by his children, Amando Martinez, Jr. of Alice, Texas; Herlinda Cantu of San Antonio, Texas; Roberto P. (Glenda) Martinez of San Antonio, Texas; Juan Antonio Martinez of Alice, Texas and Jose Jaime (Leoma) Martinez of Kingsville, Texas; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2009 at Ruben M. Garcia & Sons Funeral Services, Chapel A, in Alice, Texas, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow Funeral Mass.
