SAN DIEGO - Alvaro "Sone" Garza, 69, entered eternal rest on June 3, 2017. He was born on February 5, 1948 to Alvaro and Eliza Garza. He was a graduate of San Diego High School, class of 1966. He was then drafted to the United States Navy and served from 1969 to 1973.

He was a Vietnam Veteran. He returned home to pursue his education at Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas. He received his Master of Science in Health and Physical Education and English. He furthered his education by obtaining his Superintendency, and Administration Certificate. Thereafter, he started his life long career as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in various school districts. Alvaro loved his grandchildren, tractor, A&I Javelinas, music, and his perrito 'Oso' most in his life. He was adventurous and always quick- witted. His unique sense of humor is etched in all of our memories. Alvaro nicknamed all who were close to him, and even those who weren't. Alvaro made friends easily and his kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvaro and Eliza Garza; one brother, Roberto "Bobby" Garza; two sisters, Zulema "Mema" Soliz and Victoria Garza; one nephew, Oscar Lopez.

Alvaro is survived by his wife of 23 years of marriage, Norma Garza; five daughters, Charissee (Roberto) Cardoze of Houston, Texas; Beverly (Rey) Reyna of Seguin, Texas; Desiree ( Vicente) Fernandez of Victoria, Texas; Kimberly (Joshua) Leal of San Diego, Texas; Elyse Garza of San Diego, Texas; his grandchildren whom he adored, Noriah, Joshua, Nayeli, Jonathon, Mia, Nicolas "Nico", Andrew Noah and Trey Rian; his sisters, Elsa Crain of San Diego, Texas ; Lucy Moore of Alice, Texas; best friend, Sylvia Stansell; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Public visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Prayer Service to be held at 6 p.m. that evening. Interment will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
