Reynaldo Gilberto Ramon, 58, passed away January 12, 2016. He was born October 2, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio to Jesus Ramon Sr. and Jacinta Figueroa Ramon. Ramon started his Law Enforcement career with the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department in 1975 as dispatcher at the age of 18 and was commissioned as a peace officer at the age of 19. Ramon joined the DPS in 1981, as a Texas Highway Patrolman and he served as a Texas Ranger from 1995 to 2009. Ranger Ramon worked out of Company “D” in Eagle Pass, Kingsville and Alice. After retiring from the Texas Rangers in 2009, Ramon became Chief Deputy of the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department. He was an active member of St. Pius X Church in Sandia, Texas. He was a CCD teacher, lector and Eucharistic minister. He was also a participant of the ACTS retreat. Reynaldo enjoyed doing woodwork and tinkering around the yard. He loved being silly with his grandchildren, always bringing smiles and laughter. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Jacinta Ramon; stepmother, Julie Ramon; brother, Joe Ramon; nephew, Juan Carlos Ramon and brother-in-law, Bobby Rivera.
Reynaldo is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth Ramon; son, Matthew Ramon, daughter, Jennifer (Ernest) Hinojosa; grandchildren, Anthony, Mia and Issac Hinojosa; parents-in-law, Federico and Elvira Ortiz; brothers, Jr Ramon, Robert (Neida) Ramon, August Ramon, Wally (Dolores) Ramon, Mando (Yole) Ortiz, Fred Ortiz, Blas (Maria) Ortiz, Gilbert (Minga) Ortiz, Adan (Viola) Ortiz, Richard Ortiz, Victor Ortiz, and Sammy (Jill) Ortiz; sisters, Mary Garza, Diana (Johnnie) Garza, Helen (Daniel) Smithwick, Angie (Amador) Garza, Esmi Ramon, Maggie (Tom) Vasquez, Celia (Ruben) Barrientes, Belin Rivera and Debbie Ortiz. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and many-many friends and commadres.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Rosas Funeral Home Chapel in Alice, Texas with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove, Texas. Burial will follow at the St. John of the Cross Cemetery in Orange Grove.
