Officials with the San Diego Police Department believe a fire at the Party Barn in San Diego last Tuesday was deliberately set, and a State Fire Marshal has been called in to assist with the investigation.

A State Fire Marshal was on the scene Thursday to examine the location, officials said, and preliminary reports indicate the fire was set intentionally.

Sgt. Javier Gutierrez, an investigator for the police department, said Friday the fire marshal had requested laboratory tests on evidence recovered from the scene, but the results of those tests will not be available for at least another week.

Although investigators do suspect arson, Gutierrez said no suspects in the case have been identified.

The San Diego Volunteer Fire Department and the Alice Fire Department responded to the fire at the Party Barn in San Diego shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire was brought under control in minutes, and damage was contained to the interior of the building.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported from the incident.
