Nueces County 4-H members recently competed at District Photography and District Roundup in Brenham.

The event was held at Blinn College. Senior 4-H members Madison Harlien and Samantha Green advanced to State competition which will be held June 14-17 at Texas A&M University-College Station.

Green competed in the open category with a presentation about scuba diving. Harlien entered in Swine Skillathon, a competition that covered skills related to overall health, proper handling, meat cut evaluation and infection and disease identification.

Six intermediate and junior 4-H members competed in multiple categories at District Photography contest in Brenham. Members submit their photos at the county level and then advance to District.

Categories range from animals -wild and domestic- to architectural elements and dormant color. Photos are judged on focus, exposure, lighting, print quality, creativity, composition, impact and uniqueness.

All 4-Hers placed in either the Red or Blue category. Camryn Haines did the best, winning the Intermediate age group with Best of Show. She also placed first in two categories and second in two categories.

Senior level 4-H members submit their photos to the state level via email. Their photos will be judged in June.
