Bazan suffered stab wounds to the chest, arm

A 26-year-old Freer man, Juan Bazan Jr., suffered stab wounds during an altercation that occurred early last Friday morning, according to official police reports.

While conversing with Fidencio Trevino, 24, near the intersection of Wendt and Third streets in Freer, both men began to argue, police said. During the argument, Trevino pulled a knife stabbing Bazan in the chest and arm, police reports show.

Police arrived at the scene about 12:22 a.m. and Bazan was transported by ambulance to Christus Spohn Hospital Alice for treatment and was later released, reports say.

Trevino was also treated for injuries to his hands after being taken by police to the hospital, reports show.

Following treatment, Trevino was transported to the Duval County Jail, arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to deliver less than four grams, reports say.

Trevino was held on surety bonds totaling $35,000, according to county jail records, and has been released.

Investigating the incident were Freer police Sgt. Arturo Martinez and officer Jim Andrzyczak with the assistance of Police Chief John Spillers, records show.
