Five members of the Clara Driscoll Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas joined a total of 206 state-wide DRT members in Austin last week to witness resolutions made in both the Senate and House of Representatives honoring the Daughters for their care and preservation of the Alamo for 106 years.
Attending the gathering from the Clara Driscoll Chapter was Jo Ann Arnold, Sylvia Budd, Bernetta Douglas, Anita Eisenhower and Chapter President Theresa Baucum.
The Senate and House Resolutions were greatly appreciated by the Daughters; however, the question of whether the Daughters will be allowed to continue as custodians of the Alamo is still to be determined, DRT representatives said.
While the women were in Austin they also met with representatives Connie Scott and Todd Hunter. Other highlights included a tour of the future site of the DRT Headquarters and Museum near State Highway 35 and Seventh Street, as well as the French Legation, which is located next door to the proposed museum and headquarters.
