Jim Wells County drug forfeiture funds will be helping high school seniors and Coastal Bend students with their higher education.
For the first time, the sheriff’s department will be awarding a total of $5,000 in scholarships to deserving students at area high schools along with several college students. The JWC Sheriff’s Department Scholarship will be awarded to high school seniors from Alice, Ben Bolt, Orange Grove and Premont and students attending Coastal Bend College are encouraged to apply with their counselors.
The scholarships are $500 each, two per school.
Each of the school counselors were provided with applications. All criteria and information is available through the counselors. Deadline to apply is May 12.
The recipients will be notified and a reception will take place on May 19 at the Coastal Bend College. For information, contact Ozelia A. Gomez at 668-0341.
