Free workforce training is being offered by Coastal Bend College and the Alice Chamber of Commerce this summer.

The workshops will be held each Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. beginning June 3 and running through Aug. 12 at the Chamber Board Room located at 612 E. Main Street.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch. Chips, drinks and dessert will be provided. There will also be door prizes.

This free training opportunity is being offered to all owners, management, supervisors and staff.

Preregistration is not required and participants may attend whichever sessions they choose. The presenters come from a variety of Alice businesses and include Brook Buterbaugh of Dixie Iron Works, Virginia Garcia of Workforce Solutions, Dr. Rito Silva from Coastal Bend College, DeeDee Arismendez from Coastal Bend College, Rey Torrez of Towerco Resources, Dr. Art Reyes from Emmanuel Baptist Church, Larry Ellis from the Small Business Development Center, local CPA Byron Blair, Ellen Startz from Island Glow, Raul Sarabia of RDS Enterprises and Cathy Colley from CHRISTUS Spohn.

Topics for training include Developing a Personal Mission Statement that will utilize the “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey (June 3), Interviewing Do’s and Don’ts (June 10) will examine the questions that can and can’t be used in interviewing as well as the legal implications, and Understanding Your Communication Style (June 17) will focus on effective ways to communicate with staff and co-workers, There will be a workshop on telephone etiquette on June 24. Safety in the Workplace (July 1) and Employee Wellness (Aug. 5) will deal with how safe workplaces and healthy employees increase productivity. The focus will be on problem solving in the workshops on Dealing with Difficult People (July 8) and Selling Skills (July 29).
