A search warrant by the Jim Wells County Taskforce resulted in the arrest of two women and the recovery of drugs at a local motel, police said.
“We disrupted a distribution area,” Police Chief Danny Bueno said. “This is what happens when individuals come in and rent a room. The owners need to be careful about suspicious activity.”
According to police, Felisita Ramirez, 36, and 23-year-old Cindy Gutierrez were arrested at the Bel-Aire Motel in the 700 block of North Johnson Street in Room 9.
Ramirez was charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana and a previous warrant.
Her bond was set at $3,000, $250 and $1,000 respectively. Gutierrez was charged with possession of marijuana with a bond of $250.
Cocaine already packaged for sale in 10 plastic baggies were recovered in the room along with a spoon and metal pipe used for smoking the drug, police said.
Both women remained at the county jail as of this morning, jail officials said.
The taskforce is a combined effort of the Alice Police Department and the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department.
“It’s an ongoing investigation for the narcotic division,” Bueno said. “These types of drugs are so dangerous where (people) become violent and commit violent crimes.”
