With summer finally around the corner, the Parks Department has already scheduled the opening of the south side pool next to Mary R. Garcia Elementary.

The pool will officially open to the public this Memorial Weekend and everyday after from noon to 4 p.m. Admission for the pool is $1 for kids 12 and under and $1.50 for everyone else.

“It usually starts out slow but until word to mouth gets out more people show up and we get a good crowd,” Parks Director Yolanda Bueno said.

Beginning on June 4 the pool will host swimming lessons to the public. Bueno said the registration fee is $35 and parents can sign their kids up at City Hall. The lessons occur in two week intervals with morning lessons only. They begin from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and again 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

“They have to be able to touch the pool floor to take part in the swim lessons,” Bueno said.

Private pool parties can be scheduled as well. Parties can only be held on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and only after 4 p.m. when the pool closes to the public. The cost to hold a pool party is $50 an hour with a 2 hour minimum. Reservations can be made at City Hall.
