A grandmother was assaulted by her granddaughter on Monday night after trying to take her cellphone away.

An officer arrived at the residence, located on Dewey St. and made contact with the victim. The victim said her granddaughter, whom she is the legal guardian of, left the residence for the weekend without permission. The victim said she decided to take her cell phone as punishment.

When the grandmother requested the phone, her granddaughter became vulgar, calling her names. It was at that time the incident escalated and the granddaughter grabbed her grandmother by the hair and punched her several times on her body. The officer didn't see any visible markings on the grandmother who insists the assault caused her pain.

The grandmother said when she told her granddaughter she was calling the police, the granddaughter fled on foot. A cursory check of the area was conducted and the granddaughter was not located.
