Timothy "Sugar Bear" Trevino was found guilty yesterday of barratry for unlawfully soliciting legal employment from a man's family after he was killed in a car accident in 2010. He was sentenced to three years in jail this morning.

The affidavit at the time alleged Trevino, along with attorney Benito Garza, showed up at the family's house at 1 a.m. the night of the accident and persuaded the family to hire Garza as their attorney. Garza pleaded guilty last week to one count of barratry and must forfeit his law license, pay a $6,000 fine and received 10 years deferred adjudication.

Garza testified against co-defendant Trevino.
