Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jennifer M. Haney recently completed Naval Nuclear Power Training Pipeline.

During the course with Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, N.Y., Haney received instruction about nuclear theory, chemistry, physics, reactor operations, safety and security. Upon completion of the course, Haney qualified as a Naval nuclear operator.

Haney is a 2007 graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School.

She is the daughter of Marie Haney and stepdaughter of Vicente Castillo, both of Corpus Christi.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Alston L. Hargrove recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Hargrove completed a variety of training, that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.

Hargrove is a 2010 graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School. He is the son of Crystal L. and Rick D. Hargrove of Corpus Christi.

Navy Seaman Jonathan J. Karpesky recently graduated from Quartermaster "A" School, and earned honors as a distinguished military graduate in his class at the Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the course, students learn to conduct weather observations, determine compass and gyro error, compute times of sunrise and sunset and follow the nautical rules-of-the-road to prevent collisions at sea.

Karpesky is a 2006 graduate of Calallen High School and joined the Navy in September 2010.

He is the son of Marta Reed and David Karpesky, both of Corpus Christi.
