Men allegedly shot JW County man to death

A composite of two suspects, believed to be involved with the first homicide of the year on Jan. 6 that left one man dead on County Road 162, were sketched from witness accounts, sheriff officials said.

The two suspects are said to be Hispanic. One, which was seen with a hood over the head is believed to have dark skin, the other a bald headed man, is reportedly light skin.

According to witnesses, the men fled the scene after the shooting in a gray or silver truck, sheriff officials said.

The autopsy preliminary report released Monday concluded that Jose Pepe Gallegos, 35, was shot three times in the upper torso, sheriff officials said.

With only six days into 2007, the first county homicide of the year resulted with Gallegos, being gunned down in his residence on Loma Linda subdivision off County Road 162, about four miles east of San Diego.

According to Jim Wells County officials, the shooting happened on Jan. 6 at 5:50 p.m. The shooting occurred on County Road 162, off of County Road 160.

Jim Wells County Sheriff's Officials are asking the public for help in the investigation.
