Freer City Council members approved an inter-local agreement with the school district in which a police officer will be hired by the city to maintain campus security during school hours.

The council agreed the officer’s pay and benefit package will be approved at a later date.

During personnel matters, the council unanimously approved to accept the submitted resignation of Amy Jimenz, the administrative assistant to the city secretary.

Also approved was a request by Police Chief John Spillers to hire officers Ricardo Garza Jr. and Ryan Ortiz to work for the local police department for one year.

Both are being sponsored by the city to attend the police academy.

In other business, council members approved to sell the alley located between Gallery Quality Motors and another property to Gallery Quality for a total cost of $6,602.50, which was figured at $1 per square foot.

Concluding the meeting, the renewal of City of Freer employee’s health benefits to be effective from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2009 was approved following review.
