Court meeting Monday morning

During the regular meeting of the Jim Wells County Commissioners' Court on Monday, the court will consider a resolution creating a County Elections Administrator position within the county to handle county elections in the future.

The position of election administrator is by appointment, and the duties would encompass many of the duties currently held by the County Clerk's Office, when it comes to supervision elections.

The county clerk would still maintain his duties of keeping county records and being responsible for issuing meeting agendas and keeping record of county meetings, as well as his various county court duties and extensive record keeping done at the county clerk's office.

The creation of an Elections Administrator position would centralize many of the election activities.

The commissioners will also consider approving the purchase of a fire truck for the Premont Fire Department from the Houston Galveston Area Council, through a cooperative purchasing agreement the court has with the HGAC.

Another agenda item to be covered includes a possible closure of a portion of County Road 341, after the court considers posting a notice of application to close.

The court will also consider approving a permit to install two monitor wells along the right of way of County Road 405.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m.
