The opening of the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department annex was held on Feb. 8 as law enforcement and city officials gathered to celebrate the new annex that will be located in downtown Premont.
"We are pleased to open our new location. We will be here to serve the public in Premont on any needs they might have related to the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department," Sheriff Oscar Lopez said.
Sheriff Lopez said the office will be used for various purposes including as a facility for his deputies to prepare paperwork or for meetings.
The sheriff's department had an annex located in Premont in the past and is looking forward to reopening at a new location. The new office will also serve as the main location for juvenile magistration.
"We will be using the new annex principally for the magistration of juveniles, but it will also serve other purposes," County Judge L. Arnoldo Saenz said. "The location of the new office is also important because it is at the downtown area and also very close to the Premont Police department."
The new annex office hours will be from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Anyone needing information should call 348-3487 or the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department at 668-0341.
"We are very pleased that the new office is open and, as we have in the past, look forward to our police department working hand-in-hand with the deputies and officials of the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department in keeping our community safe," Premont Mayor Mario Rodriguez said.
