Justin Reyna, 17, the son of Rey and Lola Reyna, plans to continue his education and work toward his career. He was recently accepted to the UT Plan II?Honors program. “As of now, I plan on majoring in international relations/business with a minor in Spanish. After I’ve finished my education, I plan on living in Washington, D.C., and working for the U.S. Foreign Affairs office,” he said of his outlook to the future.
While a student at AHS, he has been a member of the band, serving as drum major in 2010-11 and saxophone section leader. He also is a member and secretary of the National Honor Society, president of the Environmental Club, secretary of T.A.F.E., a member of Interact, the National Hispanic Institute, is a St. Joseph Altar Server, a member of the AHS?UIL?Team, is the AHS?debate captain and a four-year letterman on the AHS swim team.
Among his accomplishments and honors he numbers being a four-year Coyote Scholar, number six in his class, first place winner of the Rotary Speech competition, a nominee for Junior Citizen of the Year, a member of the All-Area Band, being awarded All-Region swimmer honors, Plan II Honors at UT?Austin and winning first place documentary in the history fair.
What is the best advice you have ever received? Who gave you the advice?
“You are the shaper of your own reality,” Luis Gonzalez, Stanford grad.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I expect to be finishing up my bachelor’s degree on my way to earning a masters.
If you could change anything about this world, what would it be and why?
If I could change anything about the world, I would make sure that the governments of the world always worked toward the well-being of the people.
If you could invite three people to dinner (other than relatives) who would they be and why?
I would invite FDR because I think he would provide insight on the future of this country. Next, I would invite Natalie Portman because she’s a great actress and person. Lastly, I would invite the entrepreneur and innovator Steve Jobs.
