Tonight's meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Alice City Council is scheduled to hold its first meeting since the May 12 general election tonight in the Alice City Council Chambers of Alice City Hall. The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The council is scheduled to review city manager applications and resumes during the closed portion of the meeting.

Among the items on the agenda are:

Recognize results and award winners of "Spring Operation Brightside 2007." Conduct a public hearing to receive comment regarding monetary incentives to be offered to Carbo Ceramics in support of their efforts to expand their operations into the city of Alice. Consider and act upon approval of the filing of an application for the Fiscal Year 2007 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance for the city of Alice, and conduct a public hearing to review the proposed use of grant funds. Consider and act upon Final Plat of William Adams Middle School Addition. Consider and act upon awarding contract for the Anderson Park Restroom Building and authorizing the interim city manager to execute and sign contract and related documentation. Consider and act upon a resolution of the city of Alice, Texas, authorizing the South Texas Aggregation Project, Inc. to negotiate an electric supply agreement for deliveries of electricity effective Jan. 1, 2008; authorizing STAP to act as an agent on behalf of the city to enter into a contract for electricity; authorizing the chairman of STAP to execute an electric supply agreement for deliveries of electricity effective Jan.1, 2008; and committing to budget for energy purchases in 2008 and, if economically feasible, in 2009, and to honor the city of Alice's commitments to purchase power for its electrical needs in 2008 and, if economically feasible, 2009, through STAP. Hear status report from city manager concerning departmental pending and prospective projects and general operations: Alice International Airport Phase 3 Construction status; Water Collection Division office hours; CDBG Application; lightning strike update (airport and central fire station); severe weather flooding and State Hurricane Exercise. Consider and act upon acceptance of one brush firefighting unit with CAFS obtained through a Fire Department Emergency Program Contract (07-0024) between the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and the city of Alice to receive an approved grant for $25,000 for completion of purchase. Consider and act upon authorizing the city manager to contract for a comprehensive study of salaries and wages, professional and technical services and personnel policies. The council may enter into executive session to discuss the following: 1) appointment of finance director; 2) parks and recreation director pay rate; 3) duties, responsibilities and authority of interim city manager; and 4) review city manager applications and resumes.
