Local entities are teaming together to help individuals find prospective employers at a job fair at the Coastal Bend College on Feb. 13.

"The job fair is a critical step in developing the workforce in Jim Wells County," said Rito Silva, CBC director for the Alice campus. "It matches potential employers with employees; the very basic component of workforce development. CBC is excited about the possibilities. Activities such as the job fair are core in our mission statement of developing a quality workforce for our service area."

Coastal Bend College, WorkSource of the Coastal Bend Alice Center and Alice/ Jim Wells County Economic Deveopment Corporation are coordinating their first job fair, organizers said.

The job fair will be held Feb. 13 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Coastal Bend College-Alice campus.

Area businesses are encouraged to participate to advertise current or future job openings and to inform job seekers and fellow employers about their products. Several companies such as Halliburton, Dixie Iron Works, Tractor Supply, Key Energy, Fesco, Brite Star, Alice Newspapers, Inc. and the City of Alice have agreed to participate.

"With the area's economy booming, more and more companies are searching for employees and offering new job opportunities in the Alice area," said Dean Kruckenberg, executive director with Alice/JWC EDC. "This job fair is an excellent event to aid in individual advancement and to inform our residents about new career fields that are opening. I encourage anyone who is interested in stepping up that career ladder to take advantage of this opportunity."

The job fair is free and open to the public. Career counselors from WorkSource will be on hand assisting job seekers with application tips and a walk through of the statewide job database.

"What a wonderful opportunity for our area employers and job seekers to take advantage of," Jim Wells County Judge Arnoldo Saenz said.

"We can boast that we are developing a first class workforce."
