Through a charitable contribution from Bayer Healthcare, CHRISTUS Spohn's Living Well Center is offering free diabetes programs in the rural areas.

"Know Your Healthy Steps" is one of the programs being offered.

This program includes information about the risk factors for diabetes and pre-diabetes, knowing your numbers and your goals for your blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure, knowing how your food affects your blood glucose, prevention tips and much more.

The first 50 participants at each session will receive a free pedometer for attending the class.

"Know Your Nutrition" is the other program being offered. This program is designed to help people with diabetes understand the role of nutrition in diabetes management and use basic carbohydrate counting in their treatment regimens.

The program focuses on basic aspects of nutrition and diabetes and explains how carbohydrate counting can be used as a simple method for healthy and effective meal planning.

This program empowers persons living with diabetes to take responsibility for their treatment regimens and partner with the health care professionals in managing their diabetes.
