At the April 18 Orange Grove ISD School Board meeting, Rene Sanchez was hired as Orange Grove High School Principal.

He will replace Tommy Moses, who is retiring.

Sanchez grew up in Edinburg and graduated there from high school.

His undergraduate degree is from Notre Dame and received his master’s degree  from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is currently working on his doctorate at UT. He earned his Jurisprudence Degree from Ohio State College of Law. Sanchez has taught high school in Weslaco, Edinburg, St. Michael’s Academy in Austin and LBJ High School in Austin.

He served as high school assistant principal at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy in Austin ISD.  He was high school principal for three years at the same school. During his tenure as principal, his school was named by Newsweek magazine as one of the Top 60 high schools in the United States. 

He currently serves as a District Accountability Officer for Austin ISD.

Sanchez officially begins work on July 1.
