More than 450 pounds of marijuana was taken off the streets Tuesday by DPS after a short pursuit on North Highway 281, about 18 miles north of Alice.
The male driver of a white Ford truck fled from officers after a short pursuit which ended on Highway 281 about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“The driver bailed out into the brush,” said Sgt. Jarrett Hardwick with the Department of Public Safety. “We weren’t able to locate him.”
Hardwick said the marijuana, which weighed 457 pounds, was hidden inside a tool box in the bed of the truck and also behind the seat. The marijuana was wrapped in 37 cellophane bundles.
The bed of the truck had barbwire and construction work benches.
“It makes it look like a work truck,” Hardwick said.
The drugs, estimated at about $137,000, were taken to DPS lab in Corpus Christi.
The truck was registered to an owner of Roma.
