A sit-down dinner and dancing with music by Jimmy Gonzalez y el grupo Mazz is one way to spend Valentine's Day with your significant other, the event's organizers said.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas are sponsoring a Valentine's Day dance on Feb. 9 at the K.C. Hall. The dinner is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 p.m. with dancing from 8 p.m. to midnight. The cost per couple is $100.

"This year, we will be concentrating in using our revenue for St. Joseph School," said Alicia Salinas, event co-chairwoman. "We are trying to raise as much as we can, hopefully $10,000."

Along with the school's donation, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas court of St. Jude Thaddeus No. 1770 will also be using the funds for the parish, seminarians, Catholic education, Catholic charities and morality in media.

The Catholic Daughters group is putting together last-minute preparations for their Annual 37th Valentine Dance.

The dance has been a tradition for the organization since 1970. The court has been in existence since 1957 and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary later in the year.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is the largest national organization of Catholic women in the world dedicated to strengthen spiritual life through Christ and His church, organizers said.

The organization was founded in 1903 by the Knights of Columbus in Utica, N.Y., and is organized in 42 states. Catholic lay and religious women 18 years or older are encouraged to join. The group's motto is unity and charity.

Meal preparations for the event are being arranged by Cindy's Catering from Laredo.
