A local man was taken to the hospital Friday when he and another man were attacked by bees on Reynolds Street, officials said.

The two men, identified as Sergio Garcia and Jesse Guerra, had reportedly just begun mowing the lawn of a home in the 1000 block of North Reynolds Street Friday around 12:30 p.m. when the attack occurred.

Both men were able to escape from a swarm of bees and run into the home, although both men sustained numerous stings, officials said.

The Alice Fire Department was called to the home and was able to escort the two men to safety under the cover of several blankets.

Guerra, who was operating a riding lawn mower when the attack occurred, was transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice for treatment.

His condition was not released Friday. Although fire fighters conducted a search of the yard for the bees' hive, the hive was not located Friday.
