There are some changes in store for the Orange Grove ISD School Board, as Will Klatt won the top spot in Saturday's school board election, followed by incumbent Kathy Rusk and former board member Dorian David.

Klatt, the youngest of the seven candidates vying for one of three spots on the board, took home 273 votes, making him the election winner overall. Rusk followed very closely behind with 272 votes in Saturday's election, and David came in a close third, with 261 votes.

Incumbent board member Praxedis Jimenez was defeated after coming in fourth place during the election, with 143 votes.

Candidate Michael Sellars came in fifth with 133 votes, Michael A. Trevino was sixth with 109 votes and Lee Ann Miller was seventh with 52 votes.

The school district received 481 votes overall.

There were 151 early votes cast during the election. During the day of the election, 282 votes were cast in Orange Grove and 48 votes were cast in Sandia.

Rusk said she was honored by the public's response during the election.

"I'm very honored that the public re-elected me and gave me a chance to serve on the school board. I'm looking forward to learning more and seeing more success from the school district, and working with everybody on the board," Rusk said.

David said he felt the election was carried on in a professional manner.

"I was very pleased with the way the voting went. I thought everyone did a very professional job with their campaigns. There was no negative campaigning," David said. "I appreciate everyone's support and I'm looking forward to serving three more years."

Klatt said he was excited about getting sworn in on Tuesday, and attending the academic banquet as a board member.

"I was extremely excited when I saw the results of the election. I was very surprised by the number of votes I received. I was hoping just to come in with the third most votes," Klatt said. "I'm looking forward to serving the citizens and students of Orange Grove. Fortunately the voters believed enough in my abilities to elect me, and I really appreciate it."
