Local police recently arrested three men in connection with the robbery of a Family Dollar store last month in Robstown.

Detective Sgt. Rick Paredez said arrest warrants were obtained early Friday for 22-year-old Jesse Herbert, Andres Benavides Bazan and Jaime Vallejo, both 20 years old. Bazan was arrested by Robstown police at his home in the 800 block of N. First St. soon after the warrants were issued, Paredez said.

Corpus Christi police arrested Vallejo and Herbert Monday night after they were pulled over in a tan 1999 Ford Expedition. Vallejo, who was driving the vehicle, was also cited for driving with an invalid license, police said. The vehicle was impounded.

The three men are facing charges of aggravated robbery in connection with an incident that occurred at the Family Dollar Store on March 26. Two men, one of who was wearing a mask and wielding a handgun, robbed the store when two female employees were working the evening shift.

The thieves made away with $1,110 in cash, which included $125 taken from the purse of one of the female clerks.

Police now believe Vallejo was the robber brandishing the firearm at the employees, Paredez said. Surveillance video from the store previously released by the Robstown Police Department showed the masked gunman, now reported to be Vallejo, going up to the front of the store without his mask prior to the robbery and peering inside before walking away.

After the men entered the store, the second robber, who police believe to be Herbert, a Robstown resident, stood by the door for a short amount of time before making his way over to the register to look through a purse belonging to one of the clerks, according to the video. The second robber had a shaved head and was wearing only sunglasses to obscure his face.

The men fled the store on foot after a customer walked into the store and were last seen heading down Power Plant Road. Police believe Bazan allegedly helped the two robbery suspects flee the scene using Bazan's vehicle, Paredez said.

Bazan, Vallejo and Herbert are being held on $100,000 bond each at the Nueces County Jail for aggravated robbery.
