A man was arrested Thursday evening after he was allegedly seen by a police officer driving recklessly in the 500 block of Loma Street.
According to the report, at 7:25 p.m. Thursday Officer Hector Perez was taking a disturbance call reported in the 600 block of S. Adams Street when he witnessed a black-and-red Ford Mustang traveling east in the 500 block of Loma Street “at a very high, dangerous and unsafe speed.”
Perez also states in the report that he “could hear the Mustang down the street revving its engine and spinning its tires continuing to drive recklessly.”
A passerby also reported to Perez the Mustang was driving recklessly. According to the report, Perez terminated his call and drove around the block, once again coming across the Mustang, now traveling west in the 500 block of Loma Street, driving fast.
Perez conducted a traffic stop on the Mustang and contacted the driver, Mark Charles Rivera, to ask him the reason for his driving “so fast within a neighborhood area with kids playing ball in the near area.”
According to the report, Rivera stated to the officer he was working on the car’s carburetor and trying to get it adjusted. Rivera was placed under arrest for reckless driving and also issued a citation for no driver’s license.
He was transported to the Alice Police Department for processing and then the Jim Wells County jail for incarceration. Rivera’s Mustang was inventoried and impounded by Double R Towing.
