The Jim Wells County Appraisal District is expected to close this week on property once designated for the construction of a new building, following a resolution passed by the appraisal district board of directors Wednesday.
That resolution authorized Chief Appraiser J. Sidney Vela to sign all necessary documents on behalf of the district to convey the title of land owned by the district to Israel Ornelas.
Ornelas made an offer to purchase the property, which is located in the 700 block of Texas Boulevard, in April of this year. That offer, for $100,000, was approved by the board in its April meeting.
Following the meeting, Vela said he is scheduled to finalize the closing paperwork on the property Friday.
The Texas Boulevard land was originally purchased by the district with the intent of building a new appraisal district facility on the site. The district, which was located in the Alice City Hall until April, recently relocated to the First Community Bank building on Main Street, ending the need for the Texas Boulevard property.
In other business Wednesday, the board approved a Sexual Harassment Policy for the district. The policy is required under state law.
