A police chase Saturday which started at H-E-B and ended in the 700 block of Glendale resulted in the arrest of two men and the discovery of a loaded pistol and a black dagger, according to a police report.

Jonathen Cavazos and Jacob Garza attempted to flee from police when Cavazos, driving a red Ford F-150, sped off from the H-E-B parking lot. The truck and a gold Pontiac Grand Am fled at a high rate of speed through the exit onto East 2nd Street, refusing to stop. In the report, police said Cavazos nearly hit a pedestrian.

The drivers continued through Woodlawn, down East 5th Street and on to Highland disregarding all stop signs before the truck turned into the Sagewood Mall and the car turned west onto Belmont.

Cavazos then turned back on Highland and 5th Street and when attempting to turn on Glendale, other patrol units were blocking the street, so instead he drove through a residential yard and empty parking lot over a curb. Cavazos finally came to a stop in the 700 block of Glendale. The passenger, Garza, jumped out of the truck and began to run south when an officer caught up to him and ordered him to the ground by gunpoint.

After a search of the Ford truck, a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol was located on the passenger floorboard. A black dagger was found in the driver's side door.

The police report said the men are associated with several gangs.

Both were arrested and charged with evading arrest using a motor vehicle and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Cavazos was also charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces and Garza also had a Kleberg County warrant for motion to revoke for forgery.
