S. Texas Criminal Investigation Unit made arrests Aug. 4

A woman and two men were arrested in Freer on drug-related charges on Saturday, Aug. 4, shortly after midnight, police reports indicate.
According to official records, Eric Leal, 24, Jennifer Gonzalez, 22, and Orlando Gonzalez, 18, were charged with possession of a controlled substance.
After entering an apartment located at 1015 Eli Garza, agents stated a cloudy, strong odor of marijuana was detected. While placing Leal under arrest, agents then observed two subjects in the kitchen area where marijuana was found lying on a table.
After conducting a further search of the residence, officers also discovered about 46 grams of cocaine found hidden under clothing in the closet of the master bedroom, according to reports. Also found concealed under a mattress in the bedroom was $1,950 in cash, believed to be currency gained from the sale and distribution of narcotics, reports show.
Orlando Gonzalez was taken to the Duval county jail and was later released on bond set at $20,000.
Jennifer Gonzalez was taken into custody and was also later released with bond set at $100,000.
Leal still remains in the Duval county jail with bond set at $100,000.
Romeo Ramirez, Ronald Smithwick and Nick Juarez of the Central South Texas Criminal Investigation Unit led the investigation. Assisting were the Freer Police Department and Duval County Sheriff's Department officials.
