SAN DIEGO - The Ernestine Glossbrenner Unit in Duval County, reports six inmates are currently active with the coronavirus (COVID-19), 236 are on medical restriction and six in medical isolation a total of one inmate has recovered from last reported.
In addition, the prison reports four employees have tested positive for the virus and one has recovered.
Getting locked up or working for the prison or jail system has all the right ingredients for a bad situation in COVID-19 outbreak terms. Close quarters, mass incarceration rates and limited staff are all hard realities for the public health crisis and the criminal justice system.
State numbers and information gathered on July, 30 from the TDCJ website includes a total of 163,362 offenders and 51,342 employees have been tested for COVID-19.
A total of 15,285 offenders and 3,288 staff have tested positive, in both symptomatic and asymptomatic testing.
Current active cases include 3,392 inmates and 1,343 employees.
A total of 11,241 offenders and 1,931 employees have recovered.
Fatalities related to the virus and TDCJ include 107 inmates with an additional 30 under investigation and a total of 14 employee- line of duty deaths contributed from the virus..
Currently, a total of 37 TDCJ Units are on lockdown due to the pandemic.
