CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice has prepared to resume elective procedures and surgeries on Wednesday, April 22, consistent with the provisions of Governor Greg Abbott’s original order on April 17.
CHRISTUS Spohn facilities have secured the personal protective equipment (PPE) and excess capacity necessary to safely care for the full spectrum of medical conditions and patient needs that the hospital has worked so hard to address in the communities for more than 114 years.
“We are working with physicians now to reschedule their patients for medical and surgical procedures they were forced to postpone due to the initial order,” said Richard Morin, MBA, BSN, RN, CNOR, Interim President, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice.
Although this may be an unprecedented time, Dr. Osbert Blow, President and Chief Medical Officer for CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, explained how CHRISTUS Spohn and its founders have experienced epidemics before like Yellow Fever and natural disasters like Hurricanes. It is part of CHRISTUS Spohn’s history, so too is the resolve to move on in love and service to those in need.
“CHRISTUS Spohn Health System is answering the call to help our community – today and tomorrow. In all that we do, we are devoted to keeping patients, their families, our caregivers and our Associates safe,” Dr. Blow said.
CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice practices infection prevention every day. In addition, CHRISTUS Spohn Alice recently began providing antibody testing. Scheduled surgery patients will be screened prior to their procedure. Patients who screen negative for the antibodies will proceed with surgery. Those testing positive for antibodies will require additional evaluation and confirmatory testing.
Not only that, but CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice has been planning over the last several weeks to be ready to continue to provide necessary, non-COVID care to keep people safe and healthy. To keep all who enter our facilities safe, CHRISTUS Spohn continues to have these following precautions in place:
* Limiting visitors (one visitor per patient, per stay)
* Screening all visitors, physicians, associates, and vendors who enter the facility
* Isolating COVID-19 patients to dedicated care units
* Comprehensive cleaning and sterilization;
* Universal masking for everyone on our campuses
* Using telemedicine technology to actively communicate with our COVID-19 patients, so their caregivers and support staff limit the number of times they enter their rooms.
